Contemporary Design for a Young Family in Brooklyn, New York

I designed the great room and kids room for a young couple, their 3-yr old son and dog. They already had great natural light, a luxurious indoor-outdoor space and some good pieces. My design vision for this home was contemporary, playful and sophisticated and needless to say, I delivered. The homeowners smile every time they walk in the door. I was also called on later to design their primary bedroom and I wanted it to feel completely different from the rest of the house… Almost like an escape from the daily and an elevated luxurious room for the power couple. Words cannot describe how one feels in this bedroom. Its dreamy, serene, calming, light, bright, airy and pure joy. It has a subtle shimmer and this luxe feeling which really makes you smile. I had to design this bedroom twice and then wait endlessly for the install and delivery and so on so forth… but like they say, alls well that ends well.

I love this living room. Soft beautiful lines of the swivel chair and the jigsaw puzzle coffee table make me swoon. The neutral rug with some greys, blues and whites feels luxe and grounds the room. This room is right next to the entry door and the door to their outdoors space, so this dual-function was critical. The Kelly Wearstler accent pillows in different sizes add some pattern and compliment the art. The sconce and the fiddle fig plant take our eye up to the high ceilings.

The beautiful dining table with its porcelain marbeled top extends, the chairs clean with a simple wipe for this young house, and the walnut legs complement the millwork in the kitchen. The dining room console is stunning with its acrylic base and lacqured burled wood in onyx finish anchored by a simple round mirror with brass accents. The white and fuschia flowers bring some softness to this space.The homeowners had the chandelier from before and it brings so much character to the space.

This little boys room is super-hero themed and all things blue. Our little client chose this wallpaper from Schumacher because the name was so playful. Neutral bedding with some super hero accent pillows and super hero artwork create a theme without a huge investment. Swap the art and pillows for Harry Potter in a few years and viola… best room for years!! My other favourite design moment in the room is this custom window seat drenched in sunlight… the perfect spot to lounge with family and friends.
